Comet Cluster

The Comet cluster is an Internet-based SCore cluster prototype. It consists of 16 dual 1GHz Pentium III PCs connected by dual-port gigabit Ethernet on the Comet i-NIC-1. The cluster uses a SCore 4.1 parallel and distributed operating System developed by Parallel and Distributed System Software Laboratory. we demonstrated a volume rendering program and a NAS parallel benchmark program running on the cluster at RWC2001 Final Exhibition & Symposia in October 2001.

We developed PM/Comet which realizes PM/UDP/IP under SCore-D global operating system. It realizes user level communication for IP/GbE and the MTU is 1.5KB for the Internet. We also developed Comet driver which supports traditional IP and the PM/Comet.
(Comet Software)

PM/Comet performance (rpmtest) exceeds 100MB/sec on Gigabit Ethernet.

This figure shows the result of the NAS Parallel Benchmark. This benchmark uses NPB2.3, Class A.
