About the Project |
The Comet (Communication Enterprising Technology) Project aims to develop network acceleration technology to realize Gigabit Internet. The project started from 1996 at Fujitsu Laboratoris, collaborated with WIDE Project from the same year, joined in RWC (Real World Computing) Project from 1997 to 2001 ( RWCP-Fujitsu ). From 2001, we have made a new collaboration with the Data Reservoir Project of the University of Tokyo.
Central to the Comet approach is off-loading Internet protocol processing from the operating system in a host computer to the intelligent NIC with the high-speed packet processing engine and use the new Application Programming Interface (API) which realizes user level communication. The Comet technology realized Internet cluster systems, Digital Video over IP systems, and the world's first Digital Video over IPsec systems.
